The 1970's charts....
This page will feature all the completed Real Charts from the 1970's. So far only the 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1979 are still to be sorted.
1970
The year 1970 is right here. With the 1969 charts now complete the PDF below has been updated filling in the blanks of Version One. The full charts are now available via the PDF link below. They include FULL sales figures and a complete list of the records that sold 250K or more in order. This PDF is the third version as it now features what records left at the end of the year and didn't make into 1971. For those that want to know, here is the last chart of 1970.
Real Chart 1970 Version 3 New
1971
The 1971 charts start below with the first chart of the year. Double sales covering two weeks plus showing all sales figures. Future charts will only show the week's sales.
More 1971 charts next Thursday night or Friday. 1974
The year 1974 is now complete. As the 1973 charts are yet to be sorted the highest positions and weeks, from that year will be missing and the sales from the previous year will not be included. This will result in gaps in the tables, till all the 1973 records are gone. The sales symbols for the 1973 big sellers will be green for the time being. These are the sales for 1974 ONLY. A few of the records have been back dated weeks wise.
The PDF of the year including all 254 best sellers is below. Version two will be available when the 1973 charts are completed:
Week error noted on The Osmonds. It should be 7 not 10.
1975
The year 1975 is now complete. Starting with a double chart covering nearly two weeks of sales. Due to this there are no sales increase symbols as basically every record has sold more than it did on the last chart of 1974. The full PDF including all the best sellers is below.
The 1975 charts are now complete.
1976
The 1976 Charts are complete and to speed up the page loading times for older computers all but the last chart of the year, plus the top 100 best sellers have had the image files removed. The last chart of the year has been replaced with a different version showing which records didn't make it to the new year. Below is that PDF file of the full year. It includes all sales figures and all the records that sold 250K in order. It now includes all the 1975 records and sales carried over from that year.
1977
These are the full 1977 charts.
The first 1977 chart shown will be the full chart, including left over sales (blue) and the sales from 1977 columns will be seen. The following week you will only see the sales figures for the week, not the running totals. As the first chart combines two weeks sales, there are no arrow sales symbols. It does mention this at the bottom of the chart, but in my haste to print the chart off, I left out the word "two". Sorry about that. The top 100 best sellers is at the end.
The Full Year PDF is complete and of course has all the sales figures and the rest of the best sellers or at least those sold 250K or more.
The 30 January chart has been changed since the first upload, correcting the title on number 85.
The 1977 charts with that are complete.
1978
The full year PDF is below. Plus the full best sellers. Including all records that sold 250K or more!
1979
Below are the charts for 1979. At the end of the year a full PDF will be added below. Plus the full best sellers. Including all records that sold 250K or more!
Next week either Saturday or Sunday another 1979 chart will be added.
Are the 1976 charts able to be viewed on the site anywhere?
ReplyDeleteThe 1976 charts are available as a PDF by clicking the coloured text between the last 1970 chart and the last 1976 chart on this page.
DeleteHello Graham I saw in a magazine that there use to be The Virgin Chart, I believe it was the early 70's. Do you have any information in relation to that Chart please.
ReplyDeleteNot heard of any Virgin Charts from that period Mark. The Virgin record stores came about out of the 1970's postal strikes, they contributed to the BMRB for certain, so a chart would have possible from them. But not seen any Virgin Charts at all from any period.
DeleteGoing back to the early 70s, i think that the Virgin record stores had a chart of sorts for albums that was used sometimes in their advertisements in the music press, whether it was based on sales or just albums that they wanted to sell (likely knowing Branson), who knows! Some corkers in there though no doubt.
DeleteHi Graham, will the 1979 charts be coming up after 1978 has finished? And will we ever see 1971, 1972 or 1973?
ReplyDeleteRegards
M
They certainly will. Then when the 1975 charts are done the 1971 will start then.
